Global Coalition for Foundational Learning School Visit
Officials from the Global Coalition for Foundational Learning were in Malawi recently and visited Chimwansongwe Primary School in Lilongwe on 30th November, 2023 which is an NNP impact school. The purpose of the visit was to observe progress of numeracy and literacy learning programmes being implemented in partnership with Ministry of Education as well as to highlight opportunities for synergy between government-led programmes supported by the coalition.
Among the delegates were members from FCDO, the Minister of Education and USAID. During the visit, the Minister, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, applauded the teachers for delivering quality education towards students of lower grade, from Standard 1 to 4 saying their energy and teaching skills are unmatched. Benjamin Piper, the Director of Global Education at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation expressed satisfaction and commended the Government of Malawi through Ministry of Education for showing unwavering commitment to foundational literacy and numeracy. The founding Development Partners of the Global Coalition for Foundational Learning are FCDO, UNICEF, UNESCO, USAID, the World Bank and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).
